Inaugural Lecture: KWASU Don Calls For Re-Training Of Islamic Scholars

Professor of Islamic history,  Kwara State University, Malete, Sulaiman Shehu Adua has advocated training of Islamic scholars in the art of mediation and conflict resolution.
Professor Sulaiman Sheu Adua gave this call while delivering the 18th inaugural lecture of Kwara State University titled “The Role of Contemporary Nigerian Islamic Scholars in West Africa.
According to him, these new skills will help mitigate sectarian and communal clashes across Nigeria and West Africa.
Professor Adua highlighted the vital roles Islamic scholars play in community outreach, social welfare, interfaith dialogue, and youth mentorship urging government and NGOs to invest in youth development programmes
He noted that religious leaders could mentor young people and help prevent radicalisation.
The inaugural lecturer also praised the resilience of Nigerian Islamic scholars in the diaspora.
The Islamic Scholar said their documented contributions to host communities reflect a deep commitment to faith and humanity.
Professor Adua therefore recommended stronger collaboration between religious leaders, governments, and organizations across West Africa to tackle shared challenges and build lasting peace.
