Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday foiled a robbery attempt in Sagamu and impounded the operational car brought by the suspects, following a swift intervention by operatives attached to the Sakura Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.
CSP Odutola said a distress call was received around 1:45 a.m. through the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, reporting that about five hoodlums were attempting to break into a residence in the community.
She noted that the operatives immediately mobilised to the scene, but the suspects fled on sighting the patrol team, prompting a chase by the police.
A black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, believed to be the robbers’ operational vehicle, was recovered at the entrance of the community.
Daily Source observed that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of fireworks (knockouts) suspected to have been intended for use as a distraction during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism, noting that the command had intensified its operational strategy by deploying personnel to identified flashpoints as part of end-of-year security measures.
He assured residents of sustained police visibility and urged them to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night, adding that keeping dark or isolated areas well-lit would help deter criminal elements.
The command also encouraged residents to follow its official social media platforms for verified updates and real-time security information.
