Kwara State Government has been charged to conduct census for widows and orphans to ease planning for their care.
Islamic Cleric, Dr. Abdul-Hameed Badmas gave the charge while delivering a lecture on the topic “Islamic View On Caring For Widows, Orphans And Less privileged Of Our Community” at the ongoing Ramadan Lectures organized by Darul-Hidayyah Centre, Ilorin.
He urged the state government to strengthen Kwara State Ministry of Social Development with adequate funding to carry out the task.
According to him, the funding of the Ministry would ensure implementation of social projects towards uplifting the status of vulnerable members of the society.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed who is of the Department of Religions University of Ilorin advised the government to prioritize the welfare of downtrodden to alleviate their sufferings.
The Islamic Scholar submitted that adequate care for the less privileged would prevent them from becoming potential recruit for terrorism or banditry.
He commended those who already established orphanage homes under Islamic guidance as Allah has reserved great rewards for them in this life and hereafter.
Meanwhile, the lecture continues today with the topic “Neighborliness In Islam” to be delivered by Dr Musliudeen Koro at Oloje beginning at 4:30pm.
