Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, has appointed Professor Abdus Salam AbdulGaniyu Abimbola as the substantive provost of the institution.
The appointment was announced by the College Registrar, Mallam Afolabi Suleiman, during the management meeting held today following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Acting Provost, Dr Sa’ad Hadi.
According to a statement issued by the College Public Relations Officer, Kadir Rasheed Arisekola, the appointment was approved by the Kwara State Government through the Ministry of Tertiary Education and took effect from March 25, 2026.
Professor Abimbola, a native of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, is a professor of Arabic studies.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Arabic from the International University of Africa, Khartoum, Sudan, in 1992.
He later earned his Master’s Degree in 1997 and Doctor of Philosophy in 2003 from the University of Ilorin.
Prior to his appointment, he rose through the academic ranks in the Department of Arabic, University of Ilorin, where he became a Professor.
The statement noted that he has participated in several local and international conferences and contributed to academic scholarship through journal publications, book chapters and other scholarly works.
The new Provost is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Linguistics Association of Nigeria, Academic Society of Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, National Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies, and the International League of Islamic Literature, among others.
The College described Professor Abimbola as hardworking and committed to staff welfare and youth development, expressing optimism that his leadership would usher in a new era of academic excellence and institutional growth.
