Easter: Kwara NUJ Greets Christian Community, Advocates Unity, Responsible Journalism

Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has felicitated Christians, particularly media professionals on the celebration of Easter.

In a joint Easter Massage issued in Ilorin  today the state NUJ Chairman, Ahmed ‘Lanre Abdullateef, and the Secretary, Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, urged Christians to imbibe and reflect on the core lessons of Easter, which include sacrifice, love, humility, and hope in their daily interactions and professional conduct.

The Union called renewed commitment to unity, tolerance, and ethical journalism in fostering peace and development.

It sued for unity, oneness, and mutual respect within the media space, stressing the indispensable role journalists play in shaping public opinion and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The Council emphasized that at a time the nation faces socio-political and economic challenges, journalists must remain committed to truth, fairness, and responsible reporting, avoiding sensationalism that could inflame tensions.

It also prayed for a united Nigeria and called for sustained peaceful coexistence among citizens, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

The NUJ further used the occasion to caution members of the political against overheating the polity through divisive rhetoric or actions capable of undermining national stability, stressing the need for issue-based politics and responsible leadership, especially as the country continues to consolidate its democratic trajectory.

While commending the efforts of security agencies, the union urged them to intensify measures to safeguard lives and property.

The NUJ also lent its support for community policing and improved collaboration with the public so as to stemming the tide of insecurity across the country.
