Association of Retired States Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria (ARSPSON) in Kwara State has said the re-election of Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed as Chairman, Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) was a confirmation of his popularity amongst members of the union.
It added that the victory of Ahmed in the just concluded state triennial conference of NUJ also validated the positive view of the association about him.
The Chairman and Secretary of the state chapter of ARSPSON, Prince Ayo Fagbemi and Dr Salihu Ahmed respectively said this in a congratulatory message they signed and made available to The Herald in Ilorin.
In the congratulatory message dated August 6th, 2024 and addressed to Kwara NUJ Chairman, the association eulogized Ahmed for his simplicity, humility, sincerity of purpose and accessibility, which endeared him to members of the union in the state.
It urged Ahmed to maintain and improve on the good qualities that attracted him to members so that the popularity he enjoys among them will not wane.
The association of retired top bureaucrats admonished the re-elected state NUJ Chairman to operate inclusive policy even with those who contested against him and cautioned against any attempt to despise them.
It expressed the hope that the partnership the NUJ has with the association in building Kwara would be sustained for the good of all and sundry.
“We received with joy, your re-election as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara State Council. Your re-election with a landslide victory and in a peaceful atmosphere did not take us by surprise, judging by your popularity amongst your members and beyond.
“It is also an indication that you achieved remarkable success in your first tenure. These, no doubt, endeared you to your members and were largely responsible for your resounding success in the re-election exercise.
“Your re-election is a confirmation of our good opinion about you. Our interactions with you at various fora clearly manifest your simplicity, humility, sincerity of purpose and accessibility to all. It is important to mention that those good qualities that endeared you to your colleagues must be maintained and improved upon so that your popularity will not wane.
“We consider it expedient to mention that you must understand it is through unity of purpose and oneness that you can stabilize your union and take it to the zenith of your collective dream.
“As you therefore assume office for the second tenure and start work in earnest, endeavour to take all along including those with whom you ran the race but did not make it. They also have ideas to contribute to the progress of your union. Therefore, do not despise them.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of our association, we heartily congratulate you on your well deserved and well merited re-election to the exalted seat. We pray Almighty Allah to help you achieve more feats that will further endear you to your members”, the congratulatory message reads partly.
