Chancellor of AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin, has restated his commitment to developing the institution into a globally competitive university comparable to Harvard University.

Alhaji Abubakar Toyin made this known during the maiden Founder’s Day and Public Lecture held in honour of Former President of the Court of Appeal and Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, retired Justice Issa Ayo Salami.

The event took place at the University’s Campus in Ganmo, Kwara State.

Alhaji Abubakar Toyin said he would not relent in his vision of positioning AATU as a centre of academic excellence.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, he urged students to remain focused, disciplined, and prayerful as success is achievable through determination and commitment.

He assured that the University would continue to produce graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development.

The Chancellor also commended key stakeholders, including Pro-Chancellor Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, for their roles in the establishment and growth of the university.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Legal Scholar Prof. Abiodun Amuda-Kannike of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies, Abuja, called for urgent reforms to the Electoral Act 2022.

He argued that although innovations like BVAS and IReV have improved transparency, contradictions in the legal framework still undermine their effectiveness.

Prof. Amuda-Kannike explained that the law’s prioritisation of manually collated results weakens the impact of electronic transmission.

He advocated full legal recognition for electronically transmitted results and clearer regulatory standards.

In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. AbdulRauf Ambali described the event as a milestone.

He reiterated the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are both knowledgeable and responsible.

The event drew dignitaries from across the country and featured cultural displays, academic presentations, poetry renditions, and sporting competitions. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.
