ADC Primary: Eleniyan Emerges Oyo Governorship Candidate

 Chairman of the Oyo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) Primary Elections Committee, Harrison Akpojaro, has declared Hon. Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as “Eleniyan,” winner of the party’s governorship primary election held on Friday, May 22, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Bimpe Adelowo, the official declaration was made in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after the conclusion of the statewide direct primary election.

Hon. Gbemileke Alagbe polled a total of 15,107 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested exercise. His closest rival, Niyi Aborisade, secured 4,307 votes, while Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke garnered 987 votes. Azeez Adeduntan polled 500 votes, and Oyebisi Luqmon Ilaka received 90 votes out of the total 21,600 votes cast.

The primary election, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), was conducted across the 351 wards in the 33 local government areas of the state.

The committee described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, fair, and in line with the electoral guidelines of the party.

Members of the Oyo State Primary Elections Committee include Harrison Akpojaro as Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Shaba as Secretary, Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake, Dr. Mavis Ujumor, Princess Aderonke Adedoja, among others.

Speaking shortly after, he was declared winner and flag bearer of the party for the 2027 governorship election, Hon. Alagbe dedicated the victory to party members, supporters, youths, women, and residents of the state.

According to him, this victory belongs to every delegate who voted with conviction, every supporter who believed in this movement, every young person who refused to give up on the future, every woman who prayed for a better Oyo State, and every citizen who desires purposeful leadership.

The ADC Governorship Candidate assured residents of an inclusive, transparent, accountable, and development-driven administration if elected.

Hon. Alagbe also promised to strengthen security across communities, revive agriculture, improve the education and healthcare sectors, support businesses, and create an economy capable of improving the standard of living of the people.

The Governorship hopeful appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, fellow aspirants, executives, coordinators, and supporters across the 33 local government areas and 351 wards of the state for their support and commitment to the party’s success.
