Concerned members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress APC in Kaiama Local Government Area have petitioned the party’s National Working Committee NWC, demanding the immediate withdrawal of Saidu Baba Ahmed’s purported nomination as the party’s candidate for the Baruten-Kaiama Federal Constituency.

In a petition dated 30 June 2026 and addressed to the NWC at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the group alleged that Ahmed’s emergence violated Sections 84(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandate direct primaries or a concluded consensus process for candidate nomination.

The petitioners said the APC had scheduled its House of Representatives primary for Friday, 15 May 2026, but no direct primary election was conducted in any polling unit or ward in Kaiama Local Government Area as required by law.

They also claimed that six of eight aspirants had committed to a consensus arrangement facilitated by party elders and community stakeholders.

According to the group, Ahmed was endorsed by certain influential party leaders in Ilorin before the process was concluded, and the party leadership accepted it without evidence of a valid primary or consensus.

The group further faulted Ahmed’s eight-year record in the Kwara State House of Assembly, representing Gwaria/Bani/Adena/Gwanabe I & II, saying it has fallen far below the expectations of the people.

It noted that lawful direct primaries were held for the two state assembly seats in Kaiama LGA, with Adamu K. Yerima declared winner for Kaiama I/Kaiama II/Kaiama III/Kemanji/Wajibe, and Ahmed Muhammad for Gwaria/Bani/Adena/Gwanabe I & II.

The petitioners said it was “disturbing” that different candidates were later recognized by the party for those seats.

The Group warned that failure to act would force them to mobilize to support an alternative candidate from another political party in the 2027 elections, boycott APC campaign activities in the federal constituency, and pursue legal remedies to protect internal democracy.
