 Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across selected wards and settlements in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state from Saturday, August 15 to Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The four-day exercise is part of efforts to bridge immunity gaps among children who were missed or remained unvaccinated during the previous Oral Polio Immunization exercise conducted earlier this year.
The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Professor Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Friday from her office along Fate Road, Ilorin.
Professor Elelu explained that the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) is a targeted vaccination intervention designed to bridge immunity gaps among children who were missed or remained unvaccinated during the previous Oral Polio Immunization exercise conducted earlier this year. She noted that the activity will provide an opportunity to reach these children and strengthen their protection against poliovirus.
She noted that the objectives of the exercise include reaching children who were missed or remained unvaccinated during the previous immunization exercise, improving vaccination coverage in poorly performing settlements, reducing the number of missed children, strengthening population immunity against poliovirus, and contributing to the interruption of poliovirus transmission.
The Executive Secretary added that the exercise will focus on settlements identified through previous campaign performance data and surveillance findings, particularly areas with low vaccination coverage and communities where eligible children may have been missed during the previous round.
She further stated that the exercise targets children aged 0–59 months and urged all parents and caregivers to cooperate with health workers by making their eligible children available for vaccination throughout the four-day exercise.
Professor Elelu emphasized that the oral polio vaccine is safe, effective, and free, encouraging parents and caregivers to ensure every eligible child receives the vaccine, regardless of their previous immunization status.
She stressed that every dose counts in protecting children from poliovirus and strengthening population immunity, urging parents, caregivers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to support the vaccination teams and ensure that no eligible child is missed.
