The Federal Government says work will soon commence on the rehabilitation of the Okeola-Oro Bridge along the Ilorin/Oro/Omu-Aran Federal Highway, following the deterioration of a section of the road beside the bridge.
The Director of the Federal Highway Department, Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja, Engineer Musa Saidu, disclosed this when the Oloro of Oro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye Olufayo II, contacted him to draw his attention to the danger posed by the deteriorating condition of the bridge.
The FERMA boss said some personnel of the agency had visited the bridge to assess the extent of the damage, while repair work would soon commence to protect road users and prevent further deterioration.
Earlier, the Oloro of Oro Kingdom had appealed to the Federal Government, through FERMA, to urgently fix the federal highway, which links Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States and serves thousands of road users.
The First-Class traditional ruler commended FERMA for its swift intervention and pledged the support of the people of Oro Kingdom to ensure the quick rehabilitation of the federal highway.
Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye Olufayo II, alongside his chiefs, had earlier visited the scene of the bridge to ensure that preventive measures were put in place to protect the lives and property of road users, especially those travelling at night.
Meanwhile, a delegation from FERMA, led by the Kwara State Coordinator of the Agency, Engineer Lukman Olushola Onimago, visited the palace of the Oloro of Oro Kingdom.
During the visit, they attributed the damage to erosion and assured the monarch and the people of the community that the road would be fixed immediately after completing the necessary paperwork and obtaining approval from the Ministry.
