State Executive Committee and Congress have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the State Working Committee (SWC), led by Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, in recognition of its maturity, openness, transparency, fairness, and commitment to due process in the administration of the Kwara State Council.

They passed the vote of confidence at the SEC meeting of the Kwara State Executive Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) comprising the State Executive Council (SEC) and leadership of the various chapels, held on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, before the monthly congress to deliberate on matters affecting the unity, welfare, administration, and overall development of the Union in the State.
The SEC and Congress commended the SWC for its responsible leadership and for maintaining an administration that promotes consultation, inclusiveness, and respect for the various organs of the Union.
Of particular interest, the SEC expressed its appreciation to the State Working Committee for its continued efforts toward improving the welfare and professional interests of members.
The Congress acknowledged the SWC’s efforts to run an inclusive administration in which members and chapel leadership are given opportunities to contribute to discussions and decisions affecting the Union.
The SEC and Congress urged the SWC to sustain this approach and continue to place the welfare, unity, dignity, and professional advancement of members at the centre of its administration.
SEC strongly frowned at the practice whereby individuals or groups of members allegedly issue letters, statements, communiqués, or other official-sounding documents purporting to speak on behalf of the entire Union or its members without the appropriate mandate or approval of the competent organs of the Council.
SEC emphasised that no individual or group should arrogate to itself the authority to speak for the entire Council or its members without proper authorisation.
The SEC therefore directed the appropriate organs of the Union to take all necessary steps, in accordance with the NUJ Constitution and established procedures, to prevent such practices and to recommend for sanction any member found culpable.
The SEC also expressed serious concern over the alleged misuse of the Union’s official WhatsApp Page and other communication channels by individuals whose activities may undermine the peace, unity, dignity, and orderly administration of the Council.
It called on all members to exercise restraint, decorum, and professionalism in their communications and directed administrators of the Union’s platforms to enforce the applicable rules fairly and without discrimination.
Members were reminded that disagreement and criticism are legitimate within a democratic Union, but such must be expressed responsibly and through recognised channels without resorting to insults, personal attacks, misinformation, or actions capable of bringing the Union into disrepute.
With respect to allegations raised against the leadership of the Council by these individuals and shared across public platforms by Oluseyi Dasilva, SEC resolved that such allegations should be subjected to proper, impartial, and transparent investigation by the appropriate organs of the Union and, where necessary, relevant law-enforcement or competent statutory authorities should be informed.
SEC maintained that every allegation should be established through facts and due process rather than through speculation, innuendo, personal attacks, or media campaigns, hence Oluseyi Dasilva must proof the allegations.
SEC affirmed that anyone found responsible for making false, malicious, defamatory, or deliberately misleading allegations should be made to answer for such conduct in accordance with the law and the relevant provisions of the NUJ Constitution.
It reaffirmed that the strength of the Nigeria Union of Journalists lies in its unity, discipline, professionalism, and adherence to its Constitution.
Members were therefore urged to avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary division, factionalism, hostility, or crisis within the Council.
SEC called on all members to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, reconciliation, and the established mechanisms of the Union for resolving disagreements.
SEC also expressed its appreciation to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the national level, under the leadership of the National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, for its efforts toward strengthening the Union and advancing the interests and welfare of journalists across the country.
It urged the national leadership to continue providing effective leadership, guidance, and support to state councils while ensuring strict adherence to the Constitution of the Union.
Finally, SEC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the dignity of journalism, promoting the welfare and professional interests of journalists in Kwara State, and ensuring that the Kwara State Council remains a united, disciplined, transparent, and progressive body.
SEC appealed to all members to put the collective interest of the Union above personal differences and to work together toward the growth and advancement of the profession.
SEC reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, transparency, accountability, due process, and the overall welfare of all members of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
