Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has commended the Edo State Judiciary for the judgement handed-down yesterday in Benin-City on the four accused persons who reportedly kidnapped a Woman in the State sometime in June this year along Airport Road, Benin-City.
In a Press Release issued in Abuja today, the National Coordinator of the Group – Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim, described the judgement as well-deserved especially now that insecurity such as killing, abduction and kidnapping of innocent citizens are still being recorded across the Country.
He said so far, over 800 persons have been reportedly abducted or kidnapped by the criminals terrorising the Country across Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Borno, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kwara and Kogi States to mention a few.
He specially commended the Edo State Governor – Governor Monday Okpehbolo for promulgating the law that endorsed capital punishment for kidnapping and abduction in the State – calling on other State Governors that are yet to do so to urgently do the same to reduce insecurity in their States.
Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim who is a Human Resources Management Expert and Media Professional, also called on the State Governors to deal with criminals in line with the Oath they took when assuming duties that they would not grant favours to anyone once the Judiciary has done all its duties and responsibilities.
He criticised the State Governors that are yet to assent to death sentences of convicted criminals who have lost their Appeals up to Supreme Court Level, pointing out that non-execution of the past death sentences, has been excerbating serious crimininal offences in Nigeria.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria therefore commended Hon. Justice Aigbona Terry Momodu of the Edo High Court of Justice for his speedy trial of the criminals brought before him – trusting that Governor Monday Okpehbolo will fulfill his promise of signing death sentences pronounced on condemned criminals to rid the State of violent crimes.
On the insecurity in the Nation generally, the Media Group appealed to the Military and other Security Agencies to synergise as they did in Oyo State recently to free all those in captivity in Nigeria before the end of October this year; so that preparations for the forthcoming General Elections could commence in earnest for peaceful atmosphere to prevail and sustained during the Elections.
