Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on the successful hosting of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was in the state for a three-day working visit.
In a statement issued at the end of its monthly congress, the union, through its Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, and Secretary, Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, applauded first lady’s visit, describing it as a testament to the state’s growing relevance at the national level.
The Union particularly celebrated the Governor for the commissioning of a number of signature projects, which it noted, would significantly enhance the state’s economy and social development
The NUJ acknowledged AbdulRazaq’s commitment to infrastructural advancement with key legacy projects commissioned during the first lady’s visit, especially the two newly constructed flyovers, named in honour of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; and the late General Tunde Idiagbon.
The Union emphasized that these projects, alongside the tour of strategic economic sites such as the Sugar Factory Film Studio, the Innovation Hub, and the Garment Factory, by the First Lady and her team, would further position Kwara State as a key player in national and international development.
The NUJ commended the ongoing urban renewal projects in Ilorin, the state capital, acknowledging the AbdulRazaq administration’s dedication to infrastructural transformation.
It noted that the extensive road networks, modern public facilities, and improved city aesthetics are contributing to a more business-friendly environment, capable of attracting investors.
The Union urged prospective investors to take advantage of Kwara’s rapidly improving infrastructure and serene environment to explore opportunities in various sectors, including technology, manufacturing, and tourism.
The professional body acknowledged the government’s strides and reminded Governor AbdulRazaq of the need to extend infrastructural development to the three state-owned media houses
It stressed that adequate and consistent funding is necessary for both broadcasting and print media to meet international standards, ensuring a more vibrant and competitive press landscape in Kwara.
The leadership of the NUJ reaffirmed its total support for the AbdulRazaq-led administration in delivering good governance and sustainable development to the people.
The Union also commended security agencies in the state for their efforts in reducing crime and ensuring peace and urged them to remain vigilant and continuously refine their strategies to fortify the state against potential security threats, both internal and external.
The NUJ, therefore, reiterated its commitment to responsible journalism and constructive engagement with the government, thus ensuring that Kwara State remains on a path of progress and prosperity.
