Kwara State Government has expressed its readiness to lay siege on every prevalent form of exploitation of human trafficking within the state metropolis.
This was stated by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq during the quarterly meeting of the state taskforce in the state ministry of Justice, recently.
The Attorney General and Commissioner, who is also the Chairman Taskforce on Human Trafficking in the State, has identified popular routes within the state where the traffickers are often exploited to perpetrate their heinous act.
Some of the areas include, Omuaran/ Offa Garage Road, Ondo / Omuaran to offa Garage Road , Patigi / maraba Road ,Surulere market / Oja-Oba Road, Yoruba Markets Road and all Motor Parks in the State metropolis.
He explained that the state security and other members of the State Task Force would henceforth place close watch on the areas to see that this inhuman act is nibbed in the bud while the perpetrators are brought to book.
Senior Sulyman further emphasized that human trafficking is the root cause contributing to some of the social vices and violation of human rights encountering in the state and the nation as a whole, such as house help, prostitution, scavengers, child labour, street hawking and street begging , forced marriage, network marketing/commission sales, amongst few others.
Senior Sulyman urged that these acts be shunned as they cause alot of havocs rather than good on the victims.
He maintained that there is an urgent need for public sensitization against human trafficking, creating awareness and educating the masses on its endemic implications on the victims and the prosperity of the State.
According to him, plans are on the way to carry out sensitization and awareness campaign in some areas in the State which include :Tanke , Coca-Cola Road, Obbo Road, Challenge axis; all major markets and boarder communities, across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Attorney General, however condemned this inhuman act and warned all involved in the act to desist before the stiffer hand of law caught up with them.
