Local Government Councils have been tasked to place religious leaders on monthly salaries for efficient service delivery.
An Ilorin-based Scholar, Professor Yusuf Lanre-Badmas made the call at the 3rd Workshop for Chief Imams organized by National Hijrah Organization of Nigeria held Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State
Professor Lanre-Badmas explained that for Chief Imams to focus on the propagation of the word of Allah, they need to be motivated in term of welfare.
He noted that the roles of imams in the society is not only to guide followers on moral and religious value but also discourage common crime among citizens.
Delivering his lecture at the event,the guest lecturer Doctor Yusuf Kolawole Jummah advised Chief imams to seek more knowledge and research on different Islamic issues in other to guide their followers on the teaching and tradition of prophet Muhammad.
In his goodwill message, the Emir of Lafiagi Alhaji Muhammed Kawu Kudu commended Hijrah organization for choosen Lafiagi as the host of the workshop.
He charged Chief Imams in the state not to preach what will cause misperception between Government and citizens.
High point of the event was the presentation of certificates to the participants.
