Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, today led officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army in a special Jumaat prayer held at the Mogadishu Cantonment Mosque to mark one year since the passing of former Army Chief, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
Lt. Shaibu described the late Lagbaja as a patriotic and selfless officer who made notable contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security system.
He said the remembrance activities, which include both church and mosque services, were organised to honour Lagbaja and other military personnel who lost their lives in service to the country.
The Army Chief urged officers and soldiers to uphold the values of dedication, discipline and leadership exemplified by the late Army chief.
He also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Armed Forces through prayers and cooperation to enhance national security.
Lt. Shaibu prayed for comfort for the family of the late Lagbaja and all families of fallen heroes.
