People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has won all 16 chairmanship seats in the local government elections held across Taraba State on Saturday.
Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), Dr Phillip Duwe, announced the results on Sunday at the Commission’s headquarters in Jalingo.
Dr Duwe stated that four political parties—the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP)—participated in the exercise, contrary to claims that only one party fielded candidates.
He noted that the election was conducted without bias or discrimination and that new innovations were introduced to strengthen the process and improve future polls in the state.
Daily Source reports that a breakdown of the results showed the PDP winning overwhelmingly in all 16 local government areas.
In Ardo-Kola, the PDP polled 47,328 votes, while in Bali it secured 119,331 votes.
The party also won in Donga with 21,207 votes, Gashaka with 44,920, Gassol with 94,920, and Ibi with 68,913.
Other results include Jalingo, where the PDP scored 107,902; Karim-Lamido, 87,993; Kurmi, 63,355; Lau, 68,430; Sardauna, 152,427; Takum, 104,226; Ussa, 69,533; Wukari, 163,513; Yarro, 61,516; and Zing, 67,302.
Dr Duwe said the election process reflected fairness and transparency, adding that the outcome demonstrated the credibility of the commission’s efforts to strengthen local democracy in Taraba State.
