Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has dismissed a viral social media report claiming he said security operations in Zamfara State would not work without him.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Matawalle described the report as false, stressing that he never made such a comment.
He explained that although he has previously expressed concern about the security situation in Zamfara, he did not grant any interview suggesting that ongoing military or security efforts depend on his involvement.
He said the publication misrepresented his position and was capable of causing unnecessary tension.
The minister, a former governor of Zamfara State, clarified that his past remarks focused on the need for cooperation among federal authorities, state governments, and security agencies to achieve lasting results in the fight against banditry.
He maintained that stakeholder collaboration remains crucial in addressing insecurity.
Matawalle also cautioned against irresponsible communication on security matters, saying misleading reports could undermine government operations or create confusion among the public.
He urged media organisations to verify information before publication, noting that accuracy and balance are essential when reporting issues related to national security.
The minister reaffirmed his support for the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace in Zamfara and other troubled parts of the country, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to strengthening security nationwide.
