Islamic Clerics not grounded in Arabic are half-baked – Professor Agaka

A Professor of Arabic, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, Abdulbaqy Agaka has observed that Islamic clerics who are not grounded in Arabic language are half-baked and unqualified for Islamic propagation

Professor Agaka made this observation in an exclusive interview with our Staff Reporter in Ilorin.

The Don noted that Da’wah in Islam is not a child’s play that should be handled by some islamic preachers who know little or nothing about Islamic jurisprudence.

He tasked Islamic clerics to be effectively grounded in Arabic language, being the language of Qur’an and Hadith to enable them excel in Islamic propagation

The Ilorin-born Professor said, adequate knowledge of Arabic would enhance their understanding of Arabic literature towards solving socio-economic, educational and technological difficulties in the Nation.

The Arabist encouraged students of Islamic Studies to acquire relevant certification in Arabic to equip them with intellectual arsenal to insulate them against ignorance.

Professor Agaka opined that Islamic clerics bereft of sound Arabic knowledge are vulnerable to mislead the society.

  1. Wisely said sir may Allah preserve you upon goodness.
    But sir, being a renowned scholar of our time, your efforts and the likes of you in our universities are highly important to review mode of admitting students in to university to study Islamic studies without or every little Arabic background.
    Also to review language of communication, textbooks, handouts using for science of Hadith, Usuulul fiqh e.t.c in our universities are too much inclining to English language than Arabic.
