The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, has called on the newly inaugurated members of the State Working Committee of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to foster unity within the council and justify the confidence their peers reposed in them.

While congratulating members of the new State Working Committee on their victory at the state council’s triennial conference, Ajakaye praised the national leadership of the NUJ for the maturity and wisdom displayed in managing the election process.

“Despite the challenges, the successful conduct of this election is a testament to the maturity and democratic values that the NUJ upholds,” he said.

Ajakaye made these remarks on Tuesday while receiving the leadership of the Kwara State Council of the NUJ, led by its chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Ilorin.

The Chief Press Secretary urged the newly elected SWC members, under the leadership of ‘Lanre Ahmed, to extend an olive branch to all members who participated in the election.

“The members have chosen their leaders through their votes. It is now time to work together, leaving behind any election-related tension. Unity is paramount for achieving the council’s objectives,” he stated.

Ajakaye also emphasized the importance of decorum and respectful communication among union members.

“There was some tension before and during the election, which is natural in human environment. However, it is crucial for the leadership to promote unity and discourage the use of foul language on the NUJ WhatsApp Platform,” he added.

The Governor’s publicist reassured the union of the state government’s continued support, saying that collaborative efforts were necessary for the betterment of both the union and the state’s populace.

“The state government will remain a steadfast partner to the NUJ. Together, we can accomplish much more for the welfare of our members and the people of Kwara State,” Ajakaye said.

Earlier, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, the re-elected chairman of the Kwara State Council of NUJ, pledged to foster inclusivity within the union.

“Our administration will reach out to all members, including those on the opposing side, to ensure a unified and strong council. We seek more government support to enhance our activities and serve our members better,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed assured that the new leadership would open a new chapter in the history of the Kwara State NUJ, aiming for an administration that welcomes positive contributions from all members.

“We are committed to an inclusive approach, where every member’s voice is heard and valued”, he added.
