The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Mrs Abiodun Essiet, has donated a sum of N1million to Shao town in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State to help in addressing water crisis facing the community.

The donated fund would enable the community drill a borehole that would serve the people of the area upon completion.

Mrs Essiet announced the donation when she visited Shao as part of the responsibility of her office to interface with communities within the nation’s North Central region.

She disclosed that the people of Shao community have been grappling with lack of drinkable water many years ago arising from the collapse of water dam supplying the area.

Mrs Essiet, who also paid a royal homage to Ohoro of Shao, Oba Job Atolagbe Ayanwola IV, when she visited the town, said the people of the community owed it a duty to ensure that government is accountable to them.

She told the community leaders to make a 50 per cent matching donation in the form of their human capital and other resources for the sustainability of the water project.

“I gave my widow’s mite of One million Naira (N1,000,000 ) to the Shao Community, Kwara State to drill a borehole. They have been suffering from scarcity of potable water for years due to the collapse of the dam.

“This was made known to me during my visit to the community. I also enlightened them about the roles of all three tiers of government and how they should hold
the government accountable.

“All Glory is to God Almighty”, the presidential aide said.

It would be recalled that Mrs Essiet was in Kwara for a town hall meeting and the official inauguration of Citizens’ Assembly volunteers under the supervision of her office.

The volunteers, one for each of the 16 local government areas of the state, were administered with the oath of office.

The citizens’ assembly was aimed at bringing together representatives from various wards within the North Central region, to serve as agents of change and influencers in their communities and to develop actionable solutions.
