Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), in collaboration with its partners is to commence the November round of the polio immunization campaign
The campaign exercise is slated from Saturday, November 30th, to Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
This is contained in a statement by Press Secretary of the Agency Alade Opeyemi
The Statement said this initiative aims to protect vulnerable children under 5 years of age from poliomyelitis.
According to the statement, this campaign follows the isolation of circulating variant poliovirus from both human and environmental sources in several states.
The statement pointed out that the immunization exercise will be conducted as a house-to-house activity, with health workers also visiting markets, churches, mosques, schools, and social gathering places to administer two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to eligible children, regardless of their previous immunization status.
The Agency noted that the Polio paralysis is irreversible, but the polio vaccine prevents it as the vaccine is free, safe, and there is no risk of overdose.
The statement therefore urged parents to protect their children through polio immunization.
