Kwara State Government has again charged farmers in the state to embrace climate-smart agricultural technologies to obtain good yields from their farming activities.
The Project Coordinator, Kwara Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ ) Project, Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, gave this charge today, during a workshop organised for Women’s Agricultural Cooperatives and Women’s Small Medium Enterprises on climate-smart agricultural technologies, which took place at Igbaja, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Dr Isiaka attributed most of the losses suffered by farmers these days to non-compliance with agricultural technologies, that are climate-smart.
According to him, government is advocating campaign for compliance among Kwara farmers, to avert such losses in future.
He described the workshop as paramount to the implementation of the SAPZ programme as planting season for this year will soon commence and farmers are to take necessary tips, to enhance agricultural productivity.
Dr. Isiaka cautioned participants against bush burning, overgrazing, deforestation and other practices that can lead to reduction in crop production and engender losses.
Speaking at the occasion, Executive Chairman, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mr. Femi Yusuf, hailed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq  for his grassroot approach to issues germane to development and people’s welfare.
Mr. Yusuf further commended this administration for the passion to promote gender participation in the project, assuring government that Ifelodun local government area is ready to key into the project, to harness its benefits.
The Resource Person, Mr. Gbadebo Elebiyo, urged farmers to acclimatize with the dynamic unfolding of weather.
He stressed the need to adopt drought resistant seeds and an improved livestock with local variety.
