Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has condemned in strong terms the use social media by two Eminent Islamic Scholars to attack each other instead of settling the matter amicably and forgiving themselves.
The two combatants are Mudirul-Markaz, Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Agege, Lagos, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilory and the Mufti of Ilorin Sheikh Sulaiman Onikijipa popularly called ‘Al-Miskin’.
In a Press Release issued in Ilorin today by National Coordinator of the Group Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim described the current situation among the rwo Scholars as embarrassing.
The Group said one of its aims and objectives is to discourage provocative and abusive preaching as well as stop the use of any media platform for insinuation, character-assassination and blackmail.
The Islamic Organization wondered how the two personalities have thrown their acquired islamic knowledge and decency to the winds and descended so low to use the social and conventional Media Platforms to attack each other
The Group maintained that their vituperations against each other could endanger public peace and cause breakdown of law and order especially in Ilorin.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria stated felt embarrassed as muslims are worried by the accusation and counter accusation between the two scholars on the social media.
The Group drew the attention of the two scholars to the Holy Qur’an Chapter 2 verse 44 that cautioned Religious Leaders on bad behaviour of ‘calling people to what is right, and behaving unislamically and described their actions as a sign of disbelief in Almighty Allah’.
It would be recalled that ahead of commencement of Ramadan this year, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria had issued Press Statement warning Islamic Scholars all over the Country not to allow Shaitan mislead them into using the period of the holy month to embark on provocative preaching and character-assasination during the fasting period.
The Group called on the Religious and Traditional Leaders of Ilorin Emirate to rise to the challenge raised this ugly situation by stopping the combating Islamic Scholars from further embarrassment of themselves and the entire muslims of the Country.
