Today’s Democracy Day Event has been described as a ‘wake-up call’ to good governance in Nigeria
A Non-Governmental Organization, Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria made this declaration in a press statement jointly signed by the National Co-ordinator of the Group Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim and the National Secretary Dr. Nasir Balogun.
The Media Group described June 12th as a water-shed in the history of Nigeria where the mandate given by the people of Nigeria to a tested and trusted politician in person of Chief M.K O.
According to him, Abiola was denied by some selfish and egocentric people in power with the sole aim of perpetuating their rule but which unfortunately boomeranged on them.
It said the celebration is a lesson to those who are unjust, unfair and bent on imposing themselves on the people at all costs.
The Islamic Organization cautioned that the return of democracy to the Country for the past 26 years is actualisation of Allah’s promise to the people in spite of the earlier distruption evidenced by the cancellation of the June 12 Presidential Election won across the Country by Chief Mashood Kashimawo Abiola.
While commending the Federal Government for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria called for full democratization of the process for the masses to enjoy full the dividends of democracy.
According to the Media Group, majority of the masses are not reaping full benefit of good governance in most of the States in the Federation because the closest Government to them is not allowed to function due to interference of their State Givernments.
MMWG called on National Assembly and State Assemblies to use their powers by voting in support of INEC to conduct future Local Governments Elections in the Country.
The Group appealed to President Tinubu to ensure that Constitution Amendment takes place during his 1st term in office so that his 2nd term could witness a lot of more achievements
It  expressed sadness that 8th and 9th National Assemblies spent alot of money on constitution amendments during their tenure but no amendment took place.
MMWG also commended President Ahmed Tinubu on his economic reform policy, financial support to less privileged students of Higher Institutions through NELFUND and its agricultural revolution.
The Group advocated relentless war against insecurity, drug peddlers and cybercrimes fraudsters to enhance national peace and stability.
