The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has dismissed insinuations that there were shootings on the institution’s campus by suspected hoodlums.
This is contained in a statement by Acting Director, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Lawal, in Osogbo while reacting to a Facebook post that raised alarm over an alleged shooting on the campus of the polytechnic and advised members of the public to avoid the axis.
It also warned against violence during the Students’ Union election, and directed members of staff and the public who do not have business with the election not to go near the venue of the exercise.
Mr. Lawal, who said the incident the Facebook user possibly referenced was pockets of violence in some parts of the Odo-Eja area of Ede, as the shooting had nothing to do with the institution.
According to him, the purported shootings within the polytechnic environment are simply the mere imagination of the rumour peddlers, and are highly baseless and hugely unfounded, as it has nothing to do with the ongoing students’ union elections.
The Polytechnic consequently advised members to disregard the latest charade and illogical rumour capable of causing confusion within the citadel, especially in the minds of parents and guardians
The Statement assured that the management will not relent in its social responsibility to secure the Polytechnic environment from any threat.
It also enjoined members of the Polytechnic Community, to go about their normal duties unhindered as necessary security measures have been put in place before, during and after the election of the Students’ Union Leadership.
