Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the need for collective action to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja, and represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia, Senator Shettima pointed out that the current administration inherited significant security issues and has implemented a coordinated strategy focused on both immediate responses and long-term stability.
He highlighted that violent attacks disregard religion, ethnicity, or social status.
The Vice President stated that the weapons used by those threatening national peace harm all citizens without distinction.
Senator Shettima stressed the need to counter not only the violent groups but also the divisive sentiments that undermine national unity.
He also charged stakeholders in governance, security and community leadership to strengthen collaboration, adding that sustainable peace can only be achieved through shared responsibility.
Senator Shettima noted that the government’s approach includes boosting intelligence gathering, enhancing community resilience, and improving socioeconomic conditions in vulnerable regions to reduce the appeal of extremist groups.
