Civil Society in Malaria Control Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN)’s State Advocacy Team (SAT) on 21st November 2025 paid an advocacy visit to the Community-Based Health Workers/Maternal and Child Health (CBHW/MCH) Manager of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Dr. Adeniran Ayodeji, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance community health outcomes across the state.
The visit aimed to familiarize the team with the personnel of the unit and to present key findings gathered during field implementation by Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), the State ATM Team’s Quality Supportive Supervision Visits (QSSV), and the State Programme Officer’s supervisory visits to the implementing LGAs.
During the engagement, the team highlighted a number of field observations, including low awareness of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in several communities and instances of negligence in maternal and child healthcare, which require urgent intervention.
In his remarks, Team Lead, Mr. Olatunbosun Femi, commended the CBHW/MCH manager for his support toward the project, particularly in the handling of GBV cases involving children and adolescents some of which have resulted in the prosecution of offenders. He, however, appealed for increased effort to further reduce violations, noting that many GBV incidents still go unreported due to cultural and religious barriers.
Responding, Dr. Ayodeji appreciated the SAT for its consistent commitment toward strengthening community systems and improving health outcomes in the state. He acknowledged that GBV has become a serious concern and stressed that the government is working toward enforcing more stringent actions against perpetrators.
He assured the team that all the issues raised would be thoroughly addressed.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Olatunbosun thanked the CBHW/MCH manager for his dedication and urged continued collaboration to ensure successful project outcomes for the benefit of communities across Kwara State.
