Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has welcomed the ban on production and sale of alcoholic drinks in satchets and small bottles in Nigeria.
This followed the extension given to the law to take effect from December this year.
Consequently, 31st December, 2025 has now been pronounced by the Senate as the effective date of the ban.
Reacting to the ban, the Media Group stated that the ban would have taken place since 2018 but due to the negative economic impact such a ban would cause the Manufacturers of the products, NAFDAC had to consent to moratorium of some years for the Manufacturers to phase-out Acohol in satchets and small bottles from their products.
The Group therefore commended the Senate for putting the interest of the Nigerian masses above any other interest by approving the ban.
It pointed out that easy accessibility of youth, commercial drivers and criminals to alcohol in satchets and small bottles have increased insecurity, loss of lives through automobile accidents and acts of criminality across the Country.
In a Press Statement today, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria and signed by its National Coordinator Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Group urged NAFDAC and NDLEA to enforce the ban as promulgated to free innocent youth from crimes, immorality and all forms of indecency.
It said the ban would protect the lives of innocent travellers from reckless commercial vehicle drivers that usually engage in buying the products to get themselves intoxicated while driving their vehicles especially during festive periods.
MMWG called on the Federal Road Safety Corps [FRSC] and the police across the Country to free all motor parks and terminuses in Nigeria of drinking parlours to reduce carnage on the roads.
