This year’s National Qur’an Recitation Competition today ended in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
In the Competition, Borno State won first position in the male category and Kano State secured first position in the female category.
The winner from Borno is Musa Ahmad Musa who scored 98.5 percent to clinch first position in the male category.
He is expected to represent Nigeria in the International Qur’an Memorization Competition coming up Mecca – Saudi Arabia next year.
In the Female Category, Hafsat Muhammad Sada from Kano State led all other States Female Competitors by scoring 94 percent to win the first position.
They both emerged victorious in memorization of completion Qur’an, Tajweed and Tafsir.
Speaking at the Formal Closing of the Competition the Chief Host and Executive Governor of Borno State Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum commended the officials, the competitors and parents of the Competitors for their spiritual dedication to the cause Islam.
Governor Zulum said learning of the Holy Qur’an is mandatory for the youth to mould them with good character throughout their lives.
Meanwhile, Kwara State came second in the 5th category of the Male Competition with Abdul-Lateef Issa scoring 87 percent while another Competitor in the 4th category of female competition, Muheenat Abidemi Yusuf came 4th in the National Contest.
The Ceremony which took place at the Convocation Arena of the University of Maiduguri was attended by the wife of the Vice-President Hajia Nana Kashim Shettima, the Governor of Zamfara State Governor Mal. Dauda Lawal, the Shehu of Borno Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai and several other Eminent Personalities from various parts of the Country.
Thirty Four states and FCT took part in the 10-Day Competition with winners and participants receiving valuable prizes and gifts.
The next Competition is scheduled for Dutse – Jigawa State next year.
