Prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart and grassroots mobiliser, Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Alhassan, has declared support for Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State to produce the next House of Representatives member for Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, citing equity, justice, and long-standing political balance within the constituency.
Speaking today at a Press Conference on behalf of the Edu APC Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, Alhassan described the call as a moral, political, and democratic necessity,
He noted that since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Federal Legislative Representation in the constituency has alternated only between Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas, leaving Moro without representation for nearly three decades.
The Politcian stressed that the position was not driven by hostility or sectional interests but by conscience and shared values rooted in both religious teachings and democratic principles.
According to him, Islam and Christianity alike emphasize justice, mutual respect, and the pursuit of the common good, values which should guide political decision-making in the constituency.
He further argued that the need for balance becomes even more compelling given the constituency’s long-standing political arrangement, which is expected to produce a senator from Patigi Local Government Area by 2027.
Alhaji Mariam Alhassan maintained that with Patigi likely to produce a Nupe-speaking Senator, equity demands that Moro be supported for the House of Representatives so that no part of our constituency feels marginalized.
Describing democracy as a system that thrives on accommodation rather than exclusion, the APC Chieftain warned against a winner-takes-all approach and urged stakeholders to preserve the historic cooperation among Edu, Moro, and Patigi local governments.
While acknowledging the contributions of the Nupe-speaking Local Governments to leadership and development since 1999, he opined that the time has come to extend the opportunity to Moro Local Government.
The APC chieftain appealed to Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, as well as party leaders, elders, youths, women, and faithful across the constituency, to rally behind the Moro 2027 aspiration.
He also called on political actors within Moro Local Government to put aside internal divisions and present a united front.
