Chairman, Ilorin Emirate Community of Kwara State University, Professor Ibrahim Laro Abubakar has congratulated Professor M. S. Ajao on his appointment to the 4th Governing Council, Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences (EkoUNIMED), Ijanikin, Lagos.
A Statement by the Association endorsed by its General Secretary, Dr. Abdullahi A. Bakare said EkoUNIMED stands for excellence and compassion, is a highly specialized university and a pioneer private medical university in West Africa
According to him, EkoUNIMED’s mission and the choice of Professor Ajao’s appointment to its Governing Council is profound and strategic- to develop world-class doctors for local and global relevance.
The Statement pointed out that Professor Ajao’s entire career has been devoted to the development of human capacity having made one professor, trained 10 PhD students, produced over 30 master’s degree holders and well over 200 undergraduate students in Anatomy as at 2022.
The Ilorin Emirate KWASU acknowledged that his travels to over 30 countries gives him a broad, global perspective on medical education as EkoUNIMED has not just appointed an accomplished professor, but a living embodiment of its mission.
The Statement noted that Professor Ajao’s most relevant experience is his proven record of building new institutions while his appointment as the Pioneer Provost of KWASU’s College of Health Sciences follows his earlier role as a Visiting pioneer Dean at KWASU in helping to establish its Medical School.
Dr Bakare maintained that his leadership is explicitly modeled on the successful template of the University of Ilorin’s long-standing medical programme, where he was also the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
He explained that His experience bridging two institutions (UNILORIN and KWASU) concurrently and navigating complex governance as the immediate past ASUU Chairman at UNILORIN would be invaluable for stakeholder management and policy advocacy at EkoUNIMED.
The Ilorin Emirate Community takes great pride in this appointment, viewing it as an expected progression in Professor Ajao’s service career, a positive reflection of the Ilorin Emirate community’s exceptional intellectual wealth, and a proud indicator of its contributions to national human capital development.
It is confident that his wisdom and integrity will be valuable additions to the EkoUNIMED Governing Council and also see the appointment as a step in a continuing journey of service and pray that this yet another appointment marks the beginning of even greater service to education and humanity.
