Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has addressed the issue of discrimination in biometric capturing involving a businesswoman and media Practitioner, Hajia Madinat Adigun-Oladotun
According to information reaching our medium, the businesswoman was rescheduled for data capturing in the Abuja office without the initial requirement of exposing her ears for passport photograph.
Hajia Adigun-Oladotun had earlier rejected the requirement as it alters her original appearance and violates her constitutionally protected right as a Muslim.
The businesswoman maintained that no Nigerian citizen should be compelled to choose between accessing a basic service and observing the dictates of their faith.
Following the successful resolution to the issue, she thanked the authorities at the Nigeria Immigration Service for their swift intervention as it underscores responsive and responsible leadership.
The Businesswoman specifically appreciated the interventions of ACG Titilayo Olaiya, I/C Passport and other Travel Documents, and DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, SPRO, noting both senior officials of the NIS demonstrated commendable professionalism and diligent service.
Hajia Adigun-Oladotun, therefore, urged Nigerians, particularly women, to speak up against discrimination and push fervently for an inclusive system that serves diverse interests.
Speaking further, she said her experience showed that no policy mandates the exposure of ears for females during biometric capturing for passport.
She encouraged Muslim women to be aware of their rights and politely resist every attempt by overzealous officials to trample on it.
