The Founder of Just Event Online Publications, Aiyelabegan Babatunde Abdulrasaq, has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seeking the conferment of national honours on deserving first-class traditional rulers in Kwara State.
In a letter dated April 16, 2025, addressed to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja and routed through the office of the Secretary to the Kwara State Government (SSG), Aiyelabegan described the request as timely and necessary in recognition of the contributions of traditional rulers to national development.
Aiyelabegan, who is also an Ambassador for Play With Kwara Youths and National Fire Safety Ambassador, noted that traditional rulers play critical roles in promoting peace, unity, cultural heritage, and grassroots development across the country.
He stressed that Kwara State’s first-class monarchs have consistently demonstrated commitment to these values while contributing to community advancement and national stability.
He expressed concern that, despite their immense contributions, only four first-class monarchs in Kwara State currently hold national honours, a situation he said does not adequately reflect the leadership, legacy, and sacrifices of the state’s royal fathers.
According to him, extending national recognition to more first-class monarchs in Kwara State would promote inclusivity, fairness, and appreciation for the vital role of traditional institutions in nation-building.
He added that such recognition would boost the morale of royal institutions and further inspire their commitment to peace, cultural pride, and sustainable development.
Aiyelabegan concluded by expressing optimism that the Federal Government would give favourable consideration to the request in the interest of equity and national unity.
