Increasing wave of divorce in the contemporary society has been attributed to excessive parental meddling.
Retired Grand Khadi, Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Abdulkadir Ola Muhammad dropped this hint while delivering lecture on the topic ” Role of Parents and Scholars Towards Reducing High Rate Divorce Cases Among Muslims” at the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series organized by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria IMAN in Ilorin.
Justice Ola Muhammad also said
inadequate religious education, unrealistic expectations weak and communal support are also impediments to marriage survival.
He submitted that divorce cases could be reduced through moderate parental guidance and preaching of Islamic Scholars.
The Cleric expressed concern over high rate divorce in muslim communities as it is permissible in Islam when life is threatened.
He described home as the first school for the children where they inculcate traits that have adverse effects on the their families in future.
He encouraged parents to ensure teaching of Islamic Principles and ethics in their in their respective homes to guarantee their children’s peaceful marriage.
