International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo, has matriculated 150 students, including beneficiaries of the Kwara State Government’s Youth Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme (YEEGS) programme.
The institution’s 16th matriculation ceremony, held yesterday, marked the formal admission of the students into various vocational and technical trades.
Delivering his matriculation address, the Rector of the college, Engr. Dr. Yaru S. Salihu, placed strong emphasis on the transformative impact of the YEEGS initiative.
Dr Salihu described it as a bold and strategic intervention by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, aimed at empowering youths and addressing unemployment in the state.
He commended the Governor for his unwavering commitment to education and human capital development, noting that the programme continues to provide vulnerable youths with access to structured skills acquisition, financial support, and post-training empowerment tools.
According to him, the 150 matriculating students comprise the tenth batch of YEEGS beneficiaries, alongside direct applicants and other sponsored candidates.
He explained that the scheme offers a comprehensive training structure, including three months of intensive hands-on training on campus, followed by three months of industrial internship, a monthly stipend, and a start-up package upon successful completion.
He further stressed that a minimum of 70 percent attendance is required for eligibility for examinations and stipends, urging students to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the government.
Highlighting the significance of the ceremony, Dr. Salihu stated that matriculation marks the formal admission of students into the College and signifies their commitment to abide by its statutes, rules, and regulations.
He charged the students to be disciplined, focused, and respectful to staff, warning that violations of institutional rules could attract severe sanctions.
The Rector also encouraged the students to take seriously the entrepreneurship and life skills components embedded in their training, describing them as critical tools for achieving self-reliance and long-term success.
He urged the students to maintain the College’s serene environment and to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of IVTEC within the peaceful host community of Ajase-Ipo.
The administration of the matriculation oath was conducted by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Eniola Oriire, officially inducting the students as bona fide members of the College.
The ceremony was witnessed by members of the College Management, staff, and other stakeholders.
