Kwara Hits 1 Million In Polio Vaccination, Seeks Media Support On Non-Compliance

No fewer than 1 million children have so far been vaccinated across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State.

United Nations Children Fund UNICEF State Mobilization Officer, Dr Dupe Shittu announced this at a seminar to herald another round Polio Immunization Campaign in collaboration with Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in Ilorin billed for 2nd of May 2026 in the State.

Dr Shittu noted that the children were vaccinated in the last immunization campaign exercise between April and March this year as the success was achieved through efforts of vaccination team.

Dr Shittu elucidated that community leaders and traditional rulers were engaged to resolved non compliance issues after campaign.

The Medical Expert maintained some Local Governments were found culpable of non compliance in the last immunization campaign occasioned by absence, houses not visited and flagrant disregard to compliance.

She therefore implored media practitioners mothers and caregivers to increase the awareness of the campaign to find a lasting remedy to the challenge of non compliance.

In her remark, Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Professor Nusirat Elelu stressed the need for journalists to always educate the society on health on the importance of immunization against polio.

Represented by the Director, Personnel, Finance and Service, Mr Ajide Olayioye tasked media outlets to be informing the populace to correct the erroneous impression about immunization.

Kwara State Government and United Nations Children Fund UNICEF have solicited the support of media practitioners in amplifying importance immunization in their reportage

Mr Jejelola Abdulganiyu of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency NPHCDA described non compliance of immunization as injurious to other children

Mr. Abdulganiyu praised the state government for vaccination compliance and called on the media to always debunk every rumour about immunization for the benefit of the state society.

Also Mr. Adisa Sulaiman was of the view that the seminar was aimed at bringing together key stakeholders from Media Houses and harmonize social Mobilization strategies for improved caregiver awareness, uptake services and community participation.
