University of Ilorin has congratulated its alumna, Ambassador Dr. (Mrs.) Nimota Nihinlola Akanbi, on her appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo State.
In a statement, the University described the appointment by the Federal Government as a well-deserved recognition of her longstanding service in public administration and education governance.
Ambassador Akanbi, a Former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, is noted for her experience in international relations and public policy, which the institution said would be valuable in her new role.
The University further recalled her previous leadership roles, including her tenure as Chairman of the Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, and her service as Board Chairperson of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC).
It said her track record in overseeing education-related institutions reflects a depth of experience that will support effective governance at the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.
UNILORIN expressed confidence that her appointment would contribute to strengthening institutional leadership and advancing education development in the country.
The Federal Government approved her appointment in a letter issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, signed by the Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa on Tuesday.
According to the letter referenced FME/COE/S/1612/C.110/VOLT/32, the appointment takes immediate effect. It added that her emoluments and conditions of service will be in accordance with Category ‘B’ of Federal Government Agencies and Statutory Corporations, as contained in the circular referenced RMC/FE/20S.2/VI/238 of 15th January, 2026.
The Ministry congratulated the appointee and wished her success in her new assignment.
