Pregnant women have been cautioned against home delivery to guard against unforseen circumstances.
Ilorin-based Health Educator, Mrs Adama Alege gave the caution in her Health Talk at the First Project for the Year cristined “Create Lasting Impact Year: Maternal and Child Health Month” organized by Rotary Club of Ilorin New Dawn.
The Programme was held at Primary Healthcare Centre, Ero-Omo in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Mrs Alege who is of Primary Healthcare Ero-Omo, urged them to always visit hospitals to insulate them against complications.
Mrs Alege counseled the pregnant women on personal hygiene to protect them against infection and urged them to eat healthy foods and fruits for successful delivery.
Also Speaking, World Health Organization, WHO Local Facilitator, Rtn. Omotosho Toluwanimi advised the pregnant women to always visit health centre at least 9 times from early pregnancy to delivery to prevent them against complications.
Rtn. Toluwanimi encouraged them to prioritize visit to health facilities for exemination to strengthen maternal health.
In her address of welcome, President Rotary Club of Ilorin New Dawn, Rtn. Yatunde Afolashade Fatoyinbo said the Programme is of one activities of the Club to impact on the lives of the pregnant women in the society.
Rtn. Fatoyinbo pointed out that the health outreach is geared to reducing maternal and mortality in the state and beyond.
The Vice President of Club, Rtn Sam Ogunremi said Rotary is independent shouldering the responsibility of humanitarian services and always give back back to the community in synergy with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund UNICEF and World Health Organization WHO.
Rotarian Eunice Olubiyi who spoke on the Importance of Antenatal pledged Rotary’s support for communities in the provision of healthcare services, resources and social amenities to improve the living conditions of the downtrodden from the grassroots.
In his goodwill message, Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Healthcare Department Agency, Professor Nusirat Elelu represented by Dr Michael Oguntoye said the reason for regular visitation to hospitals by pregnant women is to safeguard their health to ensure unhindered delivery as Nigeria is among the Nations with high risk of maternal and child mortality globally.
Professor Elelu maintained that government and global community are working hard to put an end to the menace.
Rtn. Ayo Olagunju of Zone 3 said Rotary has monthly and yearly Programmes with 1.4 million members in 222 countries globally.
District Governor Elect, Rotarian Dolu Oyeyiola posited that members contributed money to purchase the distributed Birth Kits to the pregnant women as a Non Governmental Organization.
The event was laced with provision of delivery support and distribution of birth kits to 100 pregnant women.
