The Igbomina Youth Assembly (IYAss) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that the Kwara State Government rejected the Iru Ekun Security Initiative established to strengthen community security in Kwara South.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, AbdulAziz Olasunkanmi Ishola, the Assembly described the reports as misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension and division among residents.
The Assembly stated that the Kwara State Government had never rejected the Iru Ekun Security Initiative, maintaining that the outfit remains a community-driven response to the growing security challenges confronting Igbominaland and other parts of Kwara South.
According to the statement, safeguarding lives and property is a fundamental responsibility that should not be subjected to politics, misinformation or unnecessary delays. It maintained that Igbomina people have both the right and the responsibility to protect their communities, farmlands, schools and other public spaces from criminal elements.
The Assembly commended traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilante groups and other security stakeholders for their sustained support towards the implementation of the Iru Ekun Security Initiative across Igbomina communities.
It also urged members of the public, particularly social media users, to verify information before sharing, warning that the spread of false narratives could undermine peace and ongoing security efforts in Kwara South.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, collaboration with the state government and security agencies, the Assembly stressed that the security of Igbominaland would remain a top priority.
The Assembly further appealed to sons and daughters of Igbominaland, both at home and in the diaspora, to support the Iru Ekun Security Initiative through prayers, financial contributions and active participation, noting that security is a collective responsibility.
