Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency, KWASAA and Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria ARCON have tasked politicians to secure necessary approvals for political jingles, billboards as 2027 general elections approach.
Addressing a Press Conference in Ilorin, Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency General Manager, Mr Toba Adeyeye said the approvals from the regulatory bodies are necessary to restore sanity in the industry.
Mr Adeyeye announced that a 1-Day stakeholders engagement on Advertisement and Campaign Communications ahead of general election has been slated for 27th August 2026.
He said the engagement is being organized by KWASAA in collaboration with Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria ARCON to bring together key stakeholders within the advertising and political ecosystem.
According to him, as 2027 general election draws nearer, it has become imperative to create to create a common understanding among stakeholders on rules guiding political advertising, campaign communications and the use of spaces for advertisement.
Also Speaking, Ilorin Zonal Head, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria ARCON, Mr. Abdulrazaq Yusuf warned that exposure of political and other general advertisements without ARCON vetting would attract stiffer penalty.
Mr. Yusuf described ARCON as a statutory Federal Government establishment saddled with the responsibility of regulating advertisement contents in Nigeria.
He cautioned political gladiators, advertisers and Nigerians in general against violation of Advertising laws, rules and regulations to insulate them against sanctions.
He pointed out that the regulation of advertisements is geared towards promoting good advertising ethical standards and professionalism in the sector.
