The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Olorundare Jimoh, has pledged stronger security and intelligence-led policing across Lagos and Ogun states, assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure.
Jimoh said the police would strengthen security operations along major corridors linking the two states, while deepening collaboration with communities and other stakeholders to prevent and detect crime.
The AIG gave the assurance in Lagos when the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, Kehinde Adewole, led a delegation to the Zonal Headquarters, Onikan, and presented him with the “Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026.”
Adewole said the award recognised Jimoh’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountability-oriented policing, particularly his achievements as Commissioner of Police in Lagos and now as AIG in charge of Zone 2.
He cited the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles, prosecution of suspected cult members and the maintenance of zero-incident security records during major festive celebrations under Jimoh’s watch.
According to him, the deployment of 250 personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic locations, coupled with rapid response to crime across parts of Lagos, also contributed to the recognition.
Responding, Jimoh described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of officers and men of the command, urging them not to become complacent but to use the recognition as motivation to improve their service to Nigerians.
Jimoh said his previous experience as Commissioner of Police in Lagos had given him a deep understanding of the security challenges confronting Lagos and Ogun, describing both states as strategically important to Nigeria’s economic development because of their extensive commercial and industrial activities.
He said Zone 2 had introduced measures to reduce crime, protect critical infrastructure and improve public safety, adding that security along major routes connecting Lagos and Ogun would receive greater attention through intelligence-led strategies.
The AIG also commended residents for their cooperation with security agencies, particularly their role in providing information that had assisted the police in preventing and detecting crime.
He urged members of the public to sustain such cooperation while constructively reporting misconduct or other shortcomings in police operations.
He advised members of the public with petitions against police officers, including senior officers, to use appropriate channels to enable the authorities investigate and address such complaints.
Jimoh further said the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had introduced initiatives aimed at strengthening police-community relations, improving personnel training and boosting public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He said Zone 2 would continue to engage stakeholders through community policing and other partnership initiatives to enhance security and strengthen public trust.
Also speaking, rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, described Jimoh as deserving of the award, attributing the relative peace in Lagos to teamwork, intelligence-led policing and community engagement.
Awosanya said the police remained a reflection of society, adding that the force had internal accountability mechanisms for addressing misconduct irrespective of an officer’s rank.
He stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the police and citizens, saying effective policing required credible intelligence, community participation and accountability.
