The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has assured stakeholders of Summit University, Offa, that he will build on the achievements recorded by the institution since its establishment, as he begins his tenure as the university’s new Pro-Chancellor.
Fagbemi gave the assurance during his first official visit to the institution, where he presided over a meeting of the Governing Council and toured several facilities on campus.
Speaking after inspecting the university’s infrastructure, the Pro-Chancellor commended the pace of development at the institution, noting that the progress made under his predecessor’s watch had set a solid foundation for the university’s continued growth.
He, however, said much work remained if Summit University was to fulfil its ambition of ranking among Nigeria’s top universities, and called for closer collaboration among the Governing Council, Board of Trustees, management, staff, students and alumni to drive that goal.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Engr. Nurudeen Adeagbo, said Fagbemi’s appointment was informed by his demonstrated commitment to the university’s development, expressing confidence that his experience would strengthen the institution’s leadership.
Also speaking, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, described Fagbemi as a worthy choice for the role, saying the new Pro-Chancellor’s antecedents made him well suited to steer the affairs of the university, which he listed among his proudest achievements for the town.
The university’s Visitor, Prince Musediq Adeniji Kazeem, SAN, FCArb, represented at the event by Alhaji Najeemudeen Yasin, said Fagbemi’s emergence followed careful deliberation aimed at bringing strong leadership to the institution at a critical point in its growth.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Engr. Abiodunl Musa Aibinu welcomed the new Pro-Chancellor and pledged the management’s support in consolidating existing achievements while exploring new areas of development, including academic quality, infrastructure, research and innovation.
The visit ended with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to advancing Summit University’s standing as one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions.
