Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has commended the ongoing efforts to revitalise Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across Kwara State, describing the interventions as important steps towards improving access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.
ACOMIN stated this during an engagement with the Director of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Dr. Oguntoye Micheal, where the organisation presented feedback from its Community-Led Monitoring Teams (CLMTs) on the implementation of some PHC projects.
ACOMIN State Coordinator appreciated the Agency for its continued collaboration and noted that the organisation’s community-based monitoring activities are intended to complement government efforts by providing feedback from beneficiaries and health workers.
The State Programme Officer Mrs Audu Oluwatosin, also acknowledged the positive changes being recorded through the PHC revitalisation programme, noting that improved infrastructure has the potential to enhance the working environment for health workers and the quality of services available to communities.
However, Mrs Audu explained that monitoring activities had also identified areas requiring further attention, including some projects that were incomplete, poorly executed or yet to commence.
The team further shared concerns raised by Officers-in-Charge regarding the supply of drugs through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), stressing the importance of ensuring that facility resources are responsive to priority needs identified at the grassroots.
The Coordinator advocated for the inclusion of ACOMIN, CLMTs, facility staff and host communities at different stages of PHC projects, from needs assessment and planning to monitoring and final inspection.
Responding, Dr. Oguntoye Micheal appreciated ACOMIN for the feedback and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ensuring that PHC interventions translate into improved healthcare delivery for residents.
The Director acknowledged the observations raised and expressed the Agency’s readiness to strengthen monitoring and supervision of projects.
