Kwara State Government has rescued 30 children from the Iranlowo Oluwa Orphanage and Children’s Home, an unapproved facility in Ilorin.
In a statement by the Press Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development, Rasheedat Shodunnke, the children, aged between two and 15, were rescued on Thursday following concerns over their welfare and living conditions.
She said the children have been moved to a government-approved shelter where they are receiving medical care, feeding and psychosocial support, while efforts are underway to trace their families for possible reunification.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajiya Mariam Nnfatima Imam, also directed all orphanages and children’s homes in the state to obtain government approval and display “Approved by the Kwara State Government” on their signposts.
The ministry said children who cannot be reunited with their families would be considered for placement in approved care facilities.
