Governor Eno Announces N50,000 Wardrobe Allowance For Teachers

Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a wardrobe allowance of N50,000 each to the 20,000 teachers employed by the State Government.

Governor Eno also announced that the 1,776 registered private schools in the state will receive a sum of N500, 000 each for their teachers, and ordered the employment of 2,000 additional teachers in addition to the 1,000 who were recently employed.

Speaking today at the Uyo Township Stadium during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration, the governor, who declared a total state of emergency on the education sector, listed his administration’s achievements.

He stated that the government had released N15 billion matching grant for SUBEB and intervened in over 100 schools and paid the gratuity of teachers, adding that his administration had so far registered 172,000 students for WASSCE and NECO and paid the examination fees.

The Governor named Prof Philip Afangha as the Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom University of Education, and urged him to commence the work of getting accreditation required for the institution, adding that other members of his team would be named before the end of the week.

He said the government would ensure all teachers are armed with the tools they require to work, and ordered the Interministerial Committee to take over the uncompleted building of the NUT house and ensure it is completed within six months.
