A 24-year-old man, Umar Musa, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for conspiring to commit a felony and unlawfully damaging metal and armoured cables belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Musa was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on each of the two counts, with the sentences to run concurrently, amounting to a total of six months.
The case, Attorney General of the Federation v. Umar Musa, came up for review of facts on October 15, 2026, during which the prosecution presented evidence and tendered exhibits recovered from the defendant.
The court admitted the exhibits in evidence before finding Musa guilty of both charges, which were brought under Section 1(3)(a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, as stated in the charge.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, announced the conviction and said the judgment followed the prosecution of the case by its Legal Unit.
The Ogun State Commandant, Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, commended the Legal Unit for its work and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to combating pipeline vandalism, oil theft and the destruction of critical national assets and infrastructure.
She warned that the command would continue to identify, arrest, investigate and prosecute individuals found culpable of offences against critical national infrastructure in accordance with its statutory mandate.
Ekundayo also urged residents, particularly those in communities hosting pipelines and other critical infrastructure, to report suspicious activities to the corps, assuring them that information provided would be treated confidentially.
She reiterated the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure, and maintaining peace and security across Ogun State.
