Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has published the name of Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, as Governorship flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.
The INEC) published his name today alongside candidates of other political parties.
The name of Danladi popularly known as SYD was conspicuously displayed on the entrance gate of the state office of the electoral umpire.
His name was pasted on the list alongside gubernatorial candidates of other political parties in the poll.
It would be recalled that the speaker of the state House of Assembly emerged as the preferred candidate at the primary election of the APC held across the 16 local government areas of the state in late May, 2026 with other aspirants eyeing the ticket.
Investigation showed that on the INEC list, one Bello Mubarak Salah was displayed as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC in the forthcoming poll.
Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence, led the panel of the APC National Secretariat to conduct the shadow poll that produced Danladi as the flag-bearer of the party in the state.
Shortly after the primary election, there were arguments from different camps of the governorship aspirants over whether the apex organ of the party would validate the primary and proceed to affirm the candidacy of the state speaker.
It was observed that members of political parties and supporters of candidates besieged the state INEC office on Western Reservoir Road, Adewole Area of Ilorin on Saturday to catch the glimpse of the list and confirm the genuineness of the candidacy of the flag-bearers.
Others, who made the gubernatorial list of the electoral commission include the state PDP candidate, Engr Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu with his running mate, Fawenu Corlenius Sunday.
For Social Democratic Party (SDP), INEC recognized Dr Ridwan Apaokagi emerged as governorship flag-bearer while Adeshina Ajisafe stood as ADP candidate, Seko Jubril Gure (Accord), Abdulmunin Yinka Ajia(NDC), Omotoso Bamidele Olaitan(AAP), Kolo Ezekiel(AA) and Oluwole Tolu (APM) among others.
With the release of the candidates list, the controversy over who has been truly certified as candidates of each political parties would have been rested.
It was also observed that the state House of Assembly candidates of the political parties in the 2027 general election were also pasted separately on another list on display.
