The Pioneer Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the 8th Kwara State Sports Festival, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, has assured Kwarans of adequate security at today’s closing ceremony of the festival.

Mogaji said the level of security provided throughout the nine-day festival would be sustained during the closing ceremony, assuring athletes, officials, spectators, invited guests and other participants of a safe and peaceful environment.

The closing ceremony of KWAFEST 2026, which is expected to bring the 8th edition of the state sports festival to a colourful end, will take place today, Saturday, August 29, at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Sports Commission chairman urged Kwarans at home and abroad to come out in large numbers to witness the grand finale and celebrate the achievements of the athletes who have represented their respective local government areas throughout the competition.

According to him, the closing ceremony is not only an opportunity to celebrate the winners but also a moment to appreciate the commitment, discipline and determination displayed by athletes, coaches, technical officials, volunteers and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the festival.

The 8th Kwara State Sports Festival, popularly known as KWAFEST 2026, commenced on August 21 and featured athletes from all 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State competing across 28 sporting events.

The festival has provided a platform for young and emerging talents across the state to showcase their abilities, compete at a high level and attract the attention of coaches, scouts and sports administrators.

Mogaji also commended the athletes and officials for their sportsmanship throughout the competition, noting that the festival has further demonstrated the depth of sporting talent available across Kwara State.

He expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for its support for sports development and for providing the necessary backing for the successful organisation of the festival.

He equally acknowledged the contributions of the MOC, Local Organising Committee, the various sub-committees, participating local governments, coaches, referees, technical officials, volunteers, medical personnel, security agencies, the media and other partners.

The festival has witnessed exciting competitions across various sporting disciplines, with athletes battling for honours and medals while representing their respective local governments.

As the competition reaches its climax, attention will shift to the closing ceremony, where outstanding athletes and participating teams are expected to be recognised for their performances.

Mogaji therefore urged residents, sports lovers, families, stakeholders and all Kwarans to make their way to the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex and join in celebrating the successful completion of the 8th Kwara State Sports Festival.

He reiterated the commitment of the Sports Commission to using sports as a tool for youth development, talent discovery, social integration and the overall development of Kwara State.

With the curtain set to fall on KWAFEST 2026 today, the closing ceremony is expected to provide a fitting celebration of the athletes, talents and sporting achievements that have defined the nine-day festival.
